Middle School Team Newsletter

May 2025

  • Message from Middle School Team:

This is a friendly reminder that state testing is still ongoing. Please ensure your child is present each day to support their success. Additionally, providing a nutritious and hearty breakfast each morning will help them stay focused during testing.

Thank you for your continued support!

  • ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ - ELA

As part of our preparation, middle school students are reviewing their CAASPP ELA. During this time, they are analyzing their responses using Q/A charts and graphic organizers to identify areas for improvement. Teachers are guiding students through strategies to strengthen their skills, with a focus on reviewing key literary terms to deepen their understanding of the material. This review process helps reinforce essential concepts, boosts confidence, and prepares students for future assessments.

Thank you for supporting your child's learning throughout this process!

  • ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ - Math

    7th and 8th Grade:

Middle school students will be reviewing their CAASPP testing. During this time, they are using their Q/A charts to answer questions and going over various strategies to enhance their understanding and performance. This review session provides an opportunity for students to reflect on their progress and reinforce key concepts.

  • ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ - Social Studies

In 7th grade, students have been studying the important role of patrons during the Renaissance. They explored how the support of patrons helped drive advances in literature, the arts, science, mathematics, cartography, engineering, and the understanding of human anatomy and astronomy. Students learned about influential figures such as Dante Alighieri, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Johann Gutenberg, and William Shakespeare. To deepen their understanding, students completed a worksheet focusing on the impact of patrons during this transformative period.

In 8th grade, students have been examining the origins and development of slavery in America, along with its profound effects on political, social, religious, economic, and cultural life. They focused on learning about Nat Turner and his resistance efforts, exploring how individuals fought against the system of slavery and how these acts of resistance shaped American history.

  • ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ - Science

Our 7th and 8th-grade students have been busy diving into their science projects! They have been learning about the scientific method, with a focus on identifying variables, forming hypotheses, and preparing to begin their experiments. This hands-on experience encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.

We are also proud to congratulate our 8th graders for completing their CAST testing. Their dedication and perseverance throughout the process have been impressive!

We look forward to seeing the exciting discoveries and projects our students will showcase in the coming weeks.

  • Community Service/Leader in Me:

In recent lessons, students focused on setting goals and monitoring their progress toward achieving them. They learned how hard work, perseverance, and using their unique talents can help them pursue future careers that match their passions and strengths. Students also discussed ways to find, share, and sustain their personal “voice,” understanding how to use it to make a positive difference in their communities. We concluded with a reflection and celebration, recognizing their growth as leaders and encouraging them to continue building on the skills and habits they have developed.

  • Projects:

    Science Fair Projects Begin!

Middle school students have begun working on their exciting Science Fair projects! This hands-on learning opportunity allows students to explore a topic of their choice, dive into research, and apply the scientific method to conduct their own experiments. Students are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, and creatively present their findings. They will work both independently and collaboratively to develop their projects, which will be showcased at our upcoming Science Fair. We can’t wait to see the incredible ideas and discoveries that emerge throughout this process!

    Album Project:

For social studies, students are working on an Album Project. The objective is for students to demonstrate the content knowledge they have gained throughout the school year by designing a creative album. Each album will focus on a subject of their choice and will include songs that relate to their topic, along with a written portion submitted online.

Both projects will be displayed during our Open House on May 15th.
