Exploring Knowledge: This Month’s Academic Journey
As we enter the final stretch of the school year, our scholars are fully immersed in meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. Throughout May, students will be joyfully engaged in their Science Projects, exploring Montessori-aligned topics such as materials, light, sound, communication, and magnetism—all of which will be showcased during our Open House on May 15th.
Our Grade 3 scholars are thoughtfully working through their CAASPP assessments, learning to pace themselves with focus and care. Your continued support in helping them arrive at school well-rested and ready to learn each day is deeply appreciated.
Meanwhile, our Grade 1 scholars are preparing for their field trip to the San Diego Natural History Museum on May 16th, a perfect complement to their exploration of the Montessori Timeline of Life, Zoology, and Botany. This month, all scholars are diving into the continent study of Australia—its unique animals, biomes, cultures, and people—broadening their understanding of the world and sparking global curiosity.
We’ll wrap up the month with our much-anticipated Business Day on May 29th, a joyful event where scholars apply their knowledge of economics, planning, and collaboration by creating and managing their own mini-businesses. It’s a celebration of independence, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit!
Finally, we look forward to honoring our oldest scholars at the Grade 3 Promotion on June 3rd—a special moment to celebrate their growth, leadership, and journey through Lower Elementary as they prepare to soar into Upper Elementary.
It’s a vibrant time in our learning environment, full of discovery, meaningful work, and community celebration!
Home Learning Adventures: Montessori Style
As our scholars dive into their exciting end-of-year experiences, your support at home continues to play a vital role in their success. In the Montessori approach, we honor the child’s natural curiosity, independence, and inner drive to learn—and you can nurture those same qualities beyond the classroom.
Here are a few simple ways to support your child’s learning and growth at home:
- Create a calm, consistent routine: Children thrive with structure. A regular bedtime, quiet reading time, and a calm space for reflection can help them recharge and stay focused during the school day.
- Encourage independence: Invite your child to take on age-appropriate responsibilities, like packing their lunch, organizing their backpack, or setting the table. These tasks build confidence and ownership.
- Talk about their day: Ask open-ended questions about what they’re working on—Science Projects, Business Day plans, or something new they’ve learned about Australia! These conversations deepen understanding and build connections.
- Read together daily: Even just 10–15 minutes of shared reading can make a big difference. Let your child read to you, or take turns—it’s a powerful way to boost literacy and foster a love of learning.
- Celebrate effort, not just outcomes: Whether it’s a science presentation or preparing for Business Day, recognizing your child’s effort helps build resilience and motivation.
Leader in Me Program:
This month, our Leader in Me focus is all about helping students discover and use their voice. Students are learning to recognize their unique strengths and speak with confidence. They’re exploring how to use their voice to support others, ask thoughtful questions to guide their own learning, and reflect on how much they’ve grown this year. You can support this at home by encouraging open conversations, celebrating effort, and reminding your child that their voice matters and can make a positive difference.
Engage & Create: This Month’s Project
This month, our students are hard at work on two exciting projects that highlight their creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. They are preparing for our Science Showcase during Open House on May 15th, where they will present hands-on investigations exploring topics like materials, light, sound, communication, and magnetism. It’s a great opportunity for families to see the scientific thinking and curiosity that drives their learning.
Later in the month, students will put their entrepreneurial skills into action for Business Day on May 29th. They'll design, plan, and run their own mini-businesses, applying lessons in economics, creativity, and teamwork. Both events are powerful examples of Montessori in action—where learning is purposeful, student-led, and fun!
